Lithuania’s train operator raises ticket prices

LTG Link, Lithuania’s state-owned passenger rail operator, announced it will increase prices for some single tickets by an average of 5% starting in August. The price adjustment marks the company’s first fare hike since June 2023.

Tickets for travel on or after August 1 will reflect the new prices when purchased starting July 2, according to the company.

The fare changes apply to single-trip tickets, while dynamic pricing remains in effect on key routes such as Vilnius–Kaunas, Kaunas–Šiauliai, Kaunas–Marijampolė, Vilnius–Trakai, and Vilnius–Varėna–Marcinkonys.

Under the dynamic pricing model, passengers can save up to 40% by booking in advance. Prices are lowest a month before departure and typically rise as the travel date approaches, depending on seat availability.

LTG Link also operates a digital loyalty and environmental incentive programme, “Traukiniautojų klubas”, which allows passengers to convert train-travelled kilometres into discounts on future trips.

Tickets are available through the LTG Link ticketing platform, where travellers can view different fare options and select the most convenient departure times. Dynamic pricing does not affect eligibility for existing discounts and fare reductions.

In contrast to the increase in single-ticket prices, LTG Link will lower the cost of 30-day passes by an average of 15% beginning in August. The company says frequent travellers could save over 60% compared to buying daily tickets.

Monthly passes are most commonly used by commuters, including those whose employers cover the cost, as well as students who study and live in different cities.

Additionally, starting August 1, parents, stepparents, and legal guardians travelling with children on weekdays will be eligible for a 50% fare discount. Previously, this discount applied only on weekends and public holidays.
